how to get rid of periodontal disease at home

how to get rid of periodontal disease at home

Gum Disease is caused by a build up of plaque on the teeth. Plaque is that disgusting, yellow stuff on your teeth that is full of bacteria. It is essential that you floss and brush your teeth everyday to remove the plaque.

Besides plaque, your lifestyle can cause gum disease. Your body's immunity system must be strong. Exercising throughout the day and eating healthy is the best way to keep your immunity strong. But if you are unable to exercise throughout the day and a healthier menu is not available to you, you should try to stay away from sugars and starches. We all know sugar is bad for our teeth but starchy foods such as french fries feed the acids that eat away at your teeth's enamel. Also, it is important to make sure you get enough sleep every night. Also stress can contribute to a lower immunity level.

Unfortunately for all you women out there, you all are at a higher risk for gum disease. Due to changes in hormones during puberty, menopause and pregnancy, the tissues in your body become more sensitive and that includes your gum tissue. Also as reported in the Journal of Periodontology, there is a risk that women who are pregnant and have some form of Periodontal Disease are more likely give birth pre-term or the babies may be born with low birth weight.

One of the more significant causes of gum disease is also the easiest to avoid. Tobacco, both smoking and chewing is horrible for your health. Besides causing cancer, lung disease and heart disease, tobacco directly affects the gum and lead to gum disease. The best way to avoid it is to never start, but if you already smoke, it is never too late to quit.

If you diagnosed with Periodontal/Gum Disease, your oral hygienist may suggest a form of periodontal surgery if your Gum Disease has progressed to a more severe stage.

But if you are diagnosed with a minor case of Gum Disease, more commonly referred to as Gingivitis, re-evaluating your daily oral hygiene routine may take care of it. Making sure you brush and floss 3 times a day and cleaning your tongue about 2 times a day can take care of it. But of course, it is always best to talk to your oral hygienist.

Some early signs of Gingivitis consist of puffy red gums, bleeding gums, a metallic taste in your mouth, significantly when you wake up, and bad breath. A good treatment for Gingivitis is the OraSweet Flossing Toothbrush, the only toothbrush that is patented with 2 sets of bristles. One of course brushes your teeth and removes the plaque that causes Gum Disease. The second set is what makes our toothbrush unique. The second set is a longer, thinner bristle that is able to go in between your teeth and underneath the gum line, essentially flossing your teeth. By no means does this replace flossing, but it is made to enhance your flossing. Using this, you will notice how much healthier your mouth looks.
